I need some encouragement. I'm going to try for a solid 3 mile run tonight. If I get there and feel good I might try for an extra mile. I'm scared.
ReplyDeleteIf you are going for completion of running the distance, I recommend starting out slower than you would like and then pick it up if you are feeling up to it after the first half mile or so and if you need to slow down the last mile or half mile - don't feel guilty. Your goal is for the distance and not speed. If you listen to music take some where it is recorded live so you can hear the audience cheering and roaring - its all for you. Good luck! Can't wait to hear how far you went.
ReplyDeleteJeanette, Thanks! I took your advice. I got a solid 4 mile run. If I would have taken a water bottle I think I could have pulled out another two miles. I think I'm going to try for a six miler by the end of the week. Stay tuned.
ReplyDeleteYay! Nice work, babe!
ReplyDeleteGood job, Brian. How are you feeling today after the run?
ReplyDelete@Colleen - What's zumba like? Do you need coordination?
@Jeanette: Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness trend with all sorts of different dance moves coordinated with catchy rhythms. The idea behind it is that you get so lost in the rhythms and dance steps that before you know it you're sweating through your shirt and the workout is over! What I like about it is that it goes fast and breaks up the monotony that I feel sometimes on a treadmill or elliptical. And I do, in fact, sweat through my shirt. I guess you would need some kind of coordination to do it, but even with coordination, I feel totally silly when I do it! With steps like "tribal pump," "belly dancing," and "booty circles," it's definitely not your average boring workout. The next time we see you guys, we'll have to do it together so you can see if you're interested.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this blog is keeping me motivated because I don't want to fall behind. Can we start a food blog? That is what I need more than anything....someone to keep me honest on what I eat in a day. So far I have just been pretending that I have to write it down and tell the world what I have eaten. So far so good! oh and 4 months without pop and 11 days without McDonald's!
ReplyDeleteNice work Melissa! You can check out www.livestrong.com I use it, and Colleen uses it also. I think it's a great tool for calorie tracking. There are several similar free sites like it if you browse around.
ReplyDeleteThe my plate has a free level and a pay level.
@Colleen - thanks for the info. that should be a sight to see me trying that out... oh my....
ReplyDelete@Melissa - good work on the dreadmill and being pop and McDonald's free. did the snow come? We have it here. this blog is definately helping me, as well - making sure I get in 4 hours of exercise. feel free to post here if you need some accountability for food things. I'm definately not good at drinking enough water and eating more sweets than I should - I wish I enjoyed baking less. ha.ha.
Yes, the snow definitely came. There are 55 counties in WV and they are all closed but 1. I saw somewhere that there is snow in every state except Florida. I know, I'm not good at water either. I do great at work, but drink sweet tea at home. I make it myself though, so it doesn't have as much sugar as McDs. I have a plan until the trip.....grapefruit for breakfast, pb and j for lunch and salad for dinner. I know I can never stick to it, but it sounds good, huh?
ReplyDelete@Colleen - Yes, teach Jeanette booty circles, I will observe to make sure she has the proper form.
ReplyDelete45 minutes of yoga killed me, hope this snow melts so I can get on a bike.
Ok, so I am the biggest loser so far in this contest, and I don't mean that in a good way. Colleen is correct that I have been under the weather with a sinus infection for the last week that has now gone into bronchitis. But I am taking inspiration from one of today's quotes and I will not use this as an excuse. Now that I can actually breathe out of both my nostrils and I have an inhaler, I am ready to hop into the pool or on the treadmill.
ReplyDeleteSo, come Hell or high water, I will be logging some miles this week. (Just not today, because I didn't go into work today and I'm exhausted from just going to the store to buy juice.)
@Ryan, booty circles might not be as exciting to watch as you think. I'm pretty sure Brian can attest to the unattractive, awkward nature of them, at least when I do them. I think you have to be Columbian, or at least not Caucasian, for them to be exciting to watch.
ReplyDelete@RorBear: YAY! Glad you can breathe again and can maybe ease into some miles for this week. Sorry you've been sick!
@Melissa: I agree that it would be nice to have some public accountability for calorie counting for those of us who are interested (and maybe even a report of weight loss or gain weekly or something?). Brian and I love the Daily Plate, though it does have frustrating occasional glitches, but it's not really public. I'll think on it and will get back to you--I'm thinking a Google spreadsheet would work, and it could be linked on here as entirely optional for only those who care to track calories.
@Jeanette: Brian said that he was thinking about going to McDonald's yesterday for lunch, but he didn't do it after he read the inspiration from you that if you wanted something bad enough, you'd do anything to get it. So thanks for posting!
@Ror - hopefully you are still getting better!
ReplyDelete@Melissa and Colleen - we can definitely add something on here for calorie counting/weight loss etc. We could do another form/spreadsheet type thing...Feel free to e-mail what you guys are thinking....
@Brian - McDonald's would have cut your wind (Aka breathing) on your 6 mile run you are hoping to do this week! Maybe you can join Melissa with a ban on McDonald's until at least May....
Oh and thanks to Melissa (and maybe Jonathan and Emily) for the workouts on Wednesday! It could have been a big fat 0 day....
ReplyDeletePut down 6 mi (3 run, 3 yoga) after the kids went to bed. Planning on at least 4 tomorrow so I don't fall behind.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on catching up tomorrow, too, and I also wanted to mention that Mr. Watson is sick, which rarely ever happens. He went home sick from work today feeling achy and feverish, and his cough tonight sounds like he has tuberculosis. He even passed on a free Pacers game, so you know it's legit. Say a prayer for a quick recovery; he hates that he will not likely pull his share this week. I told him to not worry too much about that since he outdid himself last week, though!
ReplyDeleteHope Brian gets feeling better. Seems like something is going around down here too. Rest up, drink lots of fluid and have Colleen make some apple pie and chicken noodle soup. You'll be better in no time!
ReplyDeleteYea!!! I made my way bright and early this morning to the gym for Aqua Fusion(essentially water aerobics)for an hour of fun and a little torture in the pool. So I am pleased that there will no longer be a big goose egg after my name. Also, I decided that I will go back to the gym this afternoon to watch football while walking or biking instead of heading to the sports bar to watch the games while eating delicious fried foods. From where are these good decisions coming???
ReplyDelete@BWats...Get well soon. I know first hand just how crappy you feel.
@Rory, (watching football while walking) that is an awesome move. Things like that are going to be the difference between us reaching the goal or not.
ReplyDeleteDid 7 miles run/walk with the Hash House Harriers http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/louisvilleh3/
@RorBear-Yeah! Nice work! Ryan's right--when any of us makes decisions like that, it will make a big difference for all of us.
ReplyDeleteBWats is still under the weather (a 101.7 temp this morning, and he was sweating through the sheets, the poor thing), but he's feeling slightly better this evening. Thanks for all the well wishes--I'll pass them along. Caring for him has taken a bit more of my time than I'd like, but no excuses, right?? So I pushed through while he was reading and did yoga this morning, followed by yoga and Zumba tonight so that I don't fall behind. This week was tough for us, but hopefully next week we'll be back in a groove.
